It takes a Village.....
They say it takes a village to raise a child and I couldn’t agree more. However, it takes that same village to help the parents who have lost their child to stay strong and to keep their faith. When our family and friends found out Tim, and I was expecting they immediately started making plans for our daughter. From August to December we received so many gifts, from store brought to handmade and amongst all the great gifts we received, it's one gift that spoke to me this week.
This gift was a tree painted onto a canvas. When the painting was presented to us, it was just a tree with no leaves. The purpose of the tree not having leaves on it was for our guest to sign the canvas by using their fingerprints to resemble leaves. The canvas took the place of a guestbook.
I must admit I forgot all about this gift till the other day when I was in Makensie’s closet ( something I like to do from time to time) and it was almost like this canvas jumped out to me. As I looked at the canvas, I realized this all started because two people fell in love and were bringing someone into this world. There's a quote that says " The roots of a family tree begin with the love of two hearts." Tim and I were the roots that brought our families and friends together to celebrate such a wonderful blessing. Makensie brought so many people together and made/making such an imprint on everyone's heart. Shows me that Makensie is the trunk, the foundation of our tree.
However, it's the leaves of a tree that provide strength and protection. The leaves on this canvas show me how blessed we are to have the village that we have. During our darkest and weakest moment(s), our village provided strength and helped us keep our faith when we lost it. Yes, it takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a strong village to help grieving parents.
Do you have a village that you can depend?
