Instinct the book review

“Our greatest power doesn’t always emerge from our experiences, not even from our most intense ones. There’s incredible hidden treasure locked up in your instincts that may not always show on your résumé. If you can spend some time with yourself, you may be on the verge of the most powerful part of your life, discovering what’s inside that your instincts want to express outside. Think about what you gravitate toward when given time to relax and recharge.”
— T.D Jakes , Instinct: The Power to Unleash Your Inborn Drive

Around February my best friend Krystal and I decided we will start a book club. T.D Jakes Instinct: The Power to Unleash Your Inborn Drive.  Was the first book on our list.  This book was perfect for the both of us, Krystal who graduated with a biology degree started to realize that she no longer had an interest in the field of science. I always told Krystal she had a creative mind and should've gone to school for Mass Communications. Before we even started reading the book, she switched her career field over and is now a Media Specialist. While reading this book, Krystal realizes that her current position is what she is supposed to be doing and enjoys doing it.

Me on the other hand, once I started reading this book, my creative juices began flowing. For over two years, I kept saying I wanted to be a blogger but all I ever did was just read on " How to become a successful blogger."  The quote above is one of my favorite quotes mentions by T.D Jakes because I believe there's a lot of people like me and Krystal who have not discover their hidden treasure yet and just need an eye opener to ask yourself:

Do I enjoy waking up every morning for this particular job?

Every time  I do this activity, I am at peace, and I can spend hours doing this?

Anything that we do for years that doesn’t match the inner imprint of our gifting will eventually become monotonous and routine , ritualistic and frustrating . Like a key that will fit a lock and yet is inadequately structured to let us open the door, we find ourselves jammed into a role that fulfills the needs of those around us but may not unlocked the door to the larger life, work, and cravings of our inner soul

I highly recommend this book for anyone who is unsatisfied with where they are in life, maybe it's your career or social life.  If you ever had second thoughts about the job title you currently hold perhaps, it's because you have a burning desire to be more than just the administrative assistance. Or you get bored with the same daily routine in your social life; maybe you're meant to be a traveler who experiences different cultures.  This books helps unlock your inner thoughts and starts to encourage you to become a better you.
